President William Ruto has reaffirmed his leadership and commitment to the Mount Kenya region, emphasizing his dedication to fulfilling the promises made during his campaign. During his recent tour of the region, Ruto addressed concerns about political tensions and allegations of neglect, assuring residents that their interests remain a priority.

Ruto’s visit to Mount Kenya marked his first in six months, a period during which he focused on addressing national economic challenges. He dismissed claims that he had deliberately avoided the region, stating that his administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy and implement development projects were evidence of his commitment. The President highlighted his long-standing relationship with the region, built over two decades, and assured residents that his ties with Mount Kenya go beyond political alliances.

During his tour, Ruto launched and inspected various development projects aimed at boosting the region’s economy. These included investments in road infrastructure, affordable housing, fresh produce markets, electricity connectivity, and irrigation projects. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in improving the livelihoods of residents and fostering economic growth.

Addressing political concerns, Ruto dismissed claims of discord with his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024. He revealed that he had intervened multiple times to prevent Gachagua’s impeachment but eventually stepped back due to governance challenges. Ruto assured residents that his administration remains united and focused on delivering tangible results for the region.

The President also took the opportunity to respond to allegations of sidelining Mount Kenya leaders and communities. He emphasized that his government is inclusive and committed to working together as one people with one destiny. Ruto warned against divisive politics and urged residents to focus on unity and development.

Ruto’s tour included stops in Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Kiambu counties. He commissioned completed projects, inspected ongoing developments, and launched new initiatives under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. The President’s agenda also included major investments in road development, with a significant allocation of KES 15 billion for infrastructure in Mount Kenya.

In his speeches, Ruto expressed gratitude to Mount Kenya residents for their overwhelming support during the 2022 General Elections. He assured them that their contribution to his presidency would not be forgotten and pledged to oversee the region’s development personally. The President’s commitment to delivering results and maintaining close ties with Mount Kenya residents was evident throughout his tour.

As Ruto continues his leadership journey, his focus on unity, development, and economic empowerment in Mount Kenya underscores his determination to strengthen his bond with the region and fulfill the promises made to its residents.
